MARCO DI SANTE
Marco Di Sante was born in Sora, Italy. He relocated to Dublin in 2010 and has been based in Kilkenny since 2013. He holds a BA (Hons) in Visual Art from SETU Waterford, where his graduate work was long-listed for the RDS Visual Art Awards 2022 and selected for the GOMA Graduate Award Exhibition the same year. In 2024, he completed a Master’s in Fine Art in Sculpture and Expanded Practice at the National College of Art & Design (NCAD), Dublin, followed by a Certificate in Art & Ecology at NCAD. Most recently, Marco was awarded the prestigious Agility Award 2025 by the Arts Council of Ireland.
Marco Di Sante is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the contemporary relationship between humans and nature, with a particular focus on the legacies of colonialism and post-colonialism. His practice-based research seeks to understand what nature is and what our role is in it through the lens of both ancient and modern cultures.
Organic and artificial elements coexist in Marco’s work which often involves the reuse of abandoned things. By giving discarded objects new life and context, he creates sculptural abstractions that respond to the living organisms cultivated in his studio. These abstract forms serve as reflections on growth, decay, transformation, and time.
Marco's approach is deeply spatial, with an emphasis on creating immersive installations that merge traditional and non-traditional techniques. The use of space becomes a method in itself, an evolving framework through which ideas are materialised.
Photography plays a key role in his practice, both as a tool for documentation and as an art form in its own right. His photographic works capture the ephemeral nature of process, offering a visual dialogue between permanence and impermanence.
